Most startup companies struggle to survive their first year. Unified Home Solutions didn’t just survive—they thrived, generating $1.3 million in revenue in just eight months. But this isn’t a typical startup story. It’s the tale of two HVAC industry veterans who walked away from corporate mediocrity to build something better: a company that combines corporate efficiency with mom-and-pop values, where employees are empowered, customers are prioritized, and growth happens through acquisition rather than exploitation.
The Corporate Escape Story
Rob had spent 26-27 years in the HVAC trade, building expertise across residential and commercial heating and cooling. For 11 years, he ran his own successful company before selling it in 2019 to become a manager and salesman. For a couple of years, everything worked well—until that company sold to a larger corporate entity.
“I just didn’t like the direction it was going,” Rob recalls. He left and joined another local company in Stamford, thinking he could find his fit there. “It didn’t turn out exactly what I thought it would be.”
By October of last year, Rob faced a decision: start another company or continue working for someone else. “I’d tried that twice. Didn’t really work out great.”
Eric, his partner, had reached similar conclusions from his own corporate experience. Both had seen what happens when profit becomes the only priority, when employee development gets abandoned, and when customer relationships become transactions. They decided to do something different.
The March 1st Launch
On March 1st, 2025, Unified Home Solutions officially launched. Unlike most startups that begin with just an idea, Rob and Eric brought something invaluable: a hand-picked team of eight experienced technicians they’d worked with before.
“We basically teamed up and said, hey, you know what? Let’s get together and start something fresh and new because we’ve all been with other companies and we want to take the best of what we’ve learned over all these years and try to put it together to something that we feel good about.”— Rob, Co-Founder
They started with zero clients but decades of combined experience—over 50 years between the founding partners alone. One team member had built such a strong personal reputation that commercial clients followed him to the new company, bringing contracts for large apartment buildings with hundreds of units.
The strategy worked. By November, just eight months after launch, Unified Home Solutions had generated $1.3 million in gross revenue.

The Strategic Focus: Service Over New Construction
Rob learned valuable lessons from his first company about where profit really lives in the HVAC business. “I did a lot of new construction when I had my first business and that carried us through, but the profit margins aren’t there with new construction,” he explains. “You give a builder a price and you basically have to stick to that. And then there’s a lot of variables that could happen during the job.”
With service work, Unified Home Solutions uses a flat-rate pricing system where customers agree to repairs before work begins. “Everything’s transparent,” Rob emphasizes. This focus on service and replacement rather than new construction provides predictable revenue, better margins, and happier customers.
What Sets Them Apart: Quality and Communication
When asked what makes Unified Home Solutions successful, both partners point to the same fundamentals: quality work and constant communication.
“The biggest thing for me is just quality and communication,” Rob emphasizes. “I’ve always been about doing the right job and having it look good. Because if it looks good, it’s going to work good. It’s got to be level and everything’s straight and clean and neat.”
“We know we can’t really reach perfection, but we strive to get to that standard. For us, it’s just our quality of work, craftsmanship, treating each and every customer as it would be our last customer. We give them undivided attention.”— Eric, Co-Founder
The approach has worked. Unified Home Solutions currently maintains a perfect 5-star rating on Google—a remarkable achievement for any service company, let alone one in its first year.
Technology and Systems
Despite being a young company, Unified Home Solutions has invested in professional systems from day one. They use ServiceTitan—widely considered the industry’s premier HVAC business management software. “They’re expensive. They’re worth every penny though,” both partners agree.
They also partner with Lennox as an authorized dealer, gaining access to co-op advertising that puts their commercials on platforms like Amazon. Understanding that HVAC systems represent major investments, they offer flexible financing through a partner company with rates as low as 2.6% or even no interest over specified terms.
The Mindset Revolution
Eric brings a unique focus on employee development that goes beyond technical skills. “The biggest thing is mindset,” he explains. “Opening, because again, we work in a field where it’s a bunch of blue collar guys. It’s like, oh, I just want to go do this. But something I bring to the table is just opening the guy’s eyes. Like, hey, this isn’t just to make you a better technician, it’s to make you a better person.”
He teaches the difference between fixed mindset and growth mindset, getting technicians to buy into personal development. “Once they bought in, that’s where they become self-managed guys. We don’t have to be on top of them. And they’re doing it for the right reasons.”
The Audacious Long-Term Vision
Most HVAC companies aim to grow their service area or add more trucks. Unified Home Solutions has a radically different plan.
“Long-term we want to sort of embody the corporate mindset of buying up companies and sort of building a conglomerate, but keeping that mom-and-pop shop feel to it,” Eric explains. “Where we value all our employees, we value all our clients, but we want to sort of build our brand and be that chain—break the mold, if you will, instead of just a corporate buy and sell, buy and sell. We want to buy, retain, empower, and grow.”
It’s an ambitious vision: build an HVAC empire through acquisition while maintaining the local identity and values of each shop.
The Bottom Line
Unified Home Solutions represents something increasingly rare in the trades: experienced professionals who’ve worked for corporate companies, learned what works and what doesn’t, and built something better from scratch.
From zero to $1.3 million in eight months. From zero clients to hundreds. From corporate frustration to entrepreneurial freedom. From generic HVAC company to a perfect 5-star rating built on quality, communication, and genuine care.
But the real story isn’t the impressive first-year numbers—it’s the vision of what they’re building. An HVAC company that treats employees like people, not profit centers. That empowers rather than exploits. That maintains local identity while achieving scale. That proves you can grow an empire without sacrificing your values.
